Memorial Day Weekend Makes Me Wanna Challah

Another recipe from my dear friend, Felicia, who's currently working as a baker at one of Madison's best bread-making shops. Always good for a decadent delight, Felicia's latest submission is great for a little Memorial Day Weekend gluttony.

Challah French Toast with Blackberry Syrup

1 Loaf challah bread, sliced thickly
6 large eggs and an equal volume of heavy cream
1 tbsp. cinnamon
Butter and vegetable oil for cooking

Blackberry Syrup

1 pint blackberries
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water (I would also recommend adding whiskey in place of some or all of the water.)
1.Mix together eggs, cream and cinnamon

2.Soak bread in the mixture

3. Cook in skillet on medium to medium-high heat until brown on both sides and set in the middle

4. Meanwhile, smoosh blackberries slightly and mix with sugar and water (or boozy-water mixture) in saucepan. Let simmer until reduced by about half

Serve with some organic coffee and perhaps a bit of fresh whipped cream.
